Jimi Hendrix, Guitar God

Do you listen to vintage music? Have a collection (or are dying to start one) of vintage guitars? Is your wardrobe full of rock t shirts of legendary guitar players? Does a good guitar solo send you into raptures? If so, (if he’s not already on there) you should add Jimi Hendrix to the list of musicians on your favorites list.

Jimi Hendrix was an American guitarist and singer-songwriter, and he is often considered to be the greatest electric guitarist in the history of rock music. He is one of the most important, influential musicians of his era. Jimi Hendrix won many of the most prestigious rock music awards during his lifetime, and has been posthumously awarded many more, including being inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the UK Music Hall of Fame.

He was so important, and such a powerful part of our musical history that Fender Musical Instruments Corporation makes a Jimi Hendrix guitar in their Tribute line, something that is reserved for the most revered artists. The guitar can be made almost exactly like the actual guitar that Jimi Hendrix played, with one small difference. It’s a guitar for right handed players, but it has a left-handed vintage white body with a reverse headstock oval profile maple-cap neck. The guitar is strung upside down with the strap button on the lower horn, and has a backwards 68 thick black CBS headstock decal, so that if you see yourself in a mirror, it looks ‘right’, the way that Jimi Hendrix played it. The controls and electrics are vintage-style but modern so that they are more stable.

As well as the upside-down left-handed Stratocaster for right-handed players, Fender also made four exact copies of the Vintage white Stratocaster Jimi Hendrix used in many of his performances. The most famous of the performances that he used it in was Woodstock in 1969. Fender dismantled the original so that they could make as close a copy as possible with every little detail perfect. Only one of these guitars is owned by a public person, and the other three are owned by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, The Danneman Family, and The Hendrix Estate.

Fender also made another Jimi Hendrix guitar, called the VoodooCaster. The VoodooCaster has a right-handed body with a reverse headstock and reverse bridge pickup for the same effect, but a right handed person can play it without awkwardness and without hitting their arm on the upside down controls.

Though it’s been forty years since his death, Jimi Hendrix’s popularity has never waned, as proved by the sales of his music and the many rock t shirts proclaiming his status as a guitar god. If you haven’t listened to his music, you’ll want to remedy that right away. And then you just might want some of those rock t shirts.
